Today’s starter for the Marines was Sammons, who got off to a strong start by retiring all three batters in the first inning. Although he allowed runners in the 2nd and 3rd innings, he shut down the opposition each time to keep the scoreboard clean. In the middle innings, he struck out the side in three consecutive innings with great tempo. Sammons also retired the side in order in the 7th but gave up his first hit of the day to lead off the 8th. Despite missing out on a no-hitter, he threw 112 pitches through 7⅔ innings, allowing just one hit, striking out four, and giving up one run. His steady performance led the team to victory!!
