Описание к видео DADx Talk - The Myth Busting Power of Dad Science

There are many myths surrounding being a dad: that they are the dispensable parent; that their love for their child is less than that of mum; that they play no role in child development.

In this talk Dr Anna Machin, Oxford Brookes University uses the latest findings from fatherhood research to bust a few myths and show that dads are as biologically primed to parent as mum. She reveals that dads build a bond with their children as powerful as, but crucially different to, that with mum and that dads have a unique role in their child’s development which is more relevant today than it has ever been. Time to understand the power of dad!

Dr Anna Machin is an evolutionary anthropologist, writer and broadcaster. Her work is about the very nature of 'being human'.

She is world-renowned for her pioneering work exploring the science and anthropology of fatherhood and her cross-disciplinary interpretation of human love. Her first book for a general audience, “The Life of Dad: Making of a Modern Father” (Simon & Schuster), was published in June 2018 and is based on her decade of research work at the University of Oxford on fathering. In January 2022 she published her second book "Why We Love: The new science behind our closest relationships" (Weidenfeld and Nicolson). As an anthropologist, she combines hard science with an understanding of the influence of culture, politics and history to give a truly 360 view of our behaviour.
