I made a couple delightful little cake stands using 2" thick Walnut Hollow brand wood slice and Colwood Detailer woodburning tool. I'm using the RT-K, it looks like a knife. It makes a nice clean line. I used the tip to make a nice weaving line as the base form for the wreath. I wasn't going for perfection here, just a nice weaving line.

Then I added leaves. I purposefully kept these sparse. I wanted a clean modern look and I wanted space to add a few little frills and trills later on. After adding leaves, I added a few stems where the leaves were growing.

Then it was time to change my tip. I switched to a ball point, which is just a basic rounded tip. This tip makes the most perfect tiny little dots. I simply added little flowers using little dots until I was satisfied.

When it was time to add legs, I used wooden doll heads (of all things!), stained them dark and used liquid nails to glue them to the bottom of the stand. These made the perfect tri-stand for my short cake stand. I used a thick candle stick for the tall cake stand. To finish it, I used Danish oil. At first it really looked yellow. When it dried, the wood still looked darker, but not as yellow (and I like less yellow!). After my 3 coats cured, it was ready to use with cupcakes or decorate with candles or whatever my heart desired!
