"As there was a tradition of holding fashion week and fashion shows in US and Europe, but it has nothing to do with our Islamic culture and tradition. In our society as you know, people are taught and wear the Hijab (veil). Girls can wear good clothes and dresses but are told to cover themselves. What fashion designers are doing these days is an attempt to distort our culture and tradition. We think the government should act on it."

Fifty two designers from across the region show off their collections at Karachi fashion week, many of which include a blend of western and eastern influences.
Designer Saman Mehdi says her collection of six outfits is " based around volume, chiffon, play with prints with matching patterns, a lot of classic glamour, just giving you interpretation in terms of silhouettes. "
Mehdi is a new designer who specialises in traditional Pakistani outfits with a mix of western style.
At present she works to order, only, for clients in Pakistan. But she hopes to expand her client base abroad soon.
