What is mascot horror? How did it get so popular, and why is it the new fairytale? We’ve all grown up hearing stories of Once Upon a Time fairytales and the sometimes creepy themes they contain. These Grimm fairy tales shaped us as kids, especially if there was not a Happily Ever After. We remembered them because we feared them. Today, indie horror games are leading the charge, such as Five Nights at Freddy's (specifically the FNAF Security Breach Ruin DLC) and Bendy and the Ink Machine. So let me take you on a trip to tell you why one specific niche of horror video games, is becoming the new fairytales of today. This is the story of mascot horror, what it is, and why it is.
