Budget 2024 expectations: “If you look at the last 5 years, the cost of cultivation as per the CACP has increased by about 40% and the PM Kisan disbursement which was announced in 2019 still stands at about Rs 6000 per annum. So, given that there has been a sharp escalation in the cost of cultivation, there could be an enhancement in the cash that is disbursed to the farmers. What also supports this logic is that if you look at last year, we saw that a lot of curbs were put in place by the government when it came to exports of the wheat commodity, rice as well as onion. Now, that led to the prices being corrected for these commodities to some extent and as a result of which the cash in hand of the farmers reduced to some extent,” says Pushan Sharma, Director - Research, CRISIL Market Intelligence and Analytics. Budget 2024, which will be an Interim Budget, will be presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on February 1, 2024 as part of the Parliament’s Budget session.
