With the expansion of business, it is not possible for an individual to carry on the business singly. He must necessarily depend on others for the efficient running of the business. He must delegate some of his powers to another. The person who acts on behalf of another or who has been delegated the authority is called an "agent". The person who authorizes another to act is called a "principal". The contract which creates the relationship of principal and agent is called an "agency". The law of agency is based on the principle, "what a person does by another, he does by himself."
