The Patrick Terminals - Brisbane Autostrad was opened in two stages, the first in December 2005, and the second, including the precinct of buildings dominated by the tower in 2009.

The terminal occupies approximately 40 hectares of land and has a quay line of just over 900 metres. The terminal is one of the most advanced in Australia, being the first in the world to operate with the Australian designed AutoStrad robotic container handling technology.
