An incredibly active tropical cyclone season continues as we look at a rare Mediterranean tropical cyclone, "Medicane" Ianos. It is located in the Ionian Sea and is approaching the coast of Greece. Model-derived sustained winds in the eyewall reach as high as 51 kt, making it comparable to a strong tropical storm in the Atlantic. We then discuss United States weather and the potential for tropical storm development in the western Gulf of Mexico over the coming week.
