This video shows the use of loader with a bucket of know volume (with or without hydraulic loader scales) to quantify the volume of a compost pile or windrow, and to track the changes or reduction in volume that occur through the different stages of production (for each production line) can be used to:

conduct a stocktake of inventory on your compost site,
estimate the reduction in volume that occurs with each successive stage of production to inform efficient allocation of available space,
plan for increased production capacity,
make better informed decisions about production scheduling and the allocation of loader time required to correctly turn compost piles at each stage of production,
in combination with bulk density, to convert compost pile volume into mass to inform the quantity of make-up water (and associated duration of irrigation) required to increase moisture content of the pile to the target range for the current stage of production, and
to better account for the real costs of production for each of your different production lines.

Composting is a manufacturing process, a better understanding of the costs of production and more intensive use of available space and resources is simply good business.
