Yesterday I joined two friends at Cheekwood Estate and Garden to walk among the spring flowers in bloom and to view the new exhibit "In a New Light: American Impressionism 1870-1940."

I was particularly interested in seeing works by Emile Gruppe. I've enjoyed photos of his work in books and online but had never seen one in person.

And I wasn't disappointed. His paintings were stunning, but so were the many, many beautiful works by other artists I love and admire that I didn't expect to see, namely those of John Singer Sargent, Childe Hassam, Edgar Payne, John Sloan, George Inness. In fact there were 130 gloriously spectacular Impressionism paintings and I was in heaven!
