I retested the Satechi dock for Mac mini after major data errors with a Kingston NVMe SSD. This time, I installed a Crucial P3 Plus (listed by Satechi as compatible) and ran intensive integrity checks with F3, plus Blackmagic Disk Speed Test, temperature measurements, and Wi-Fi performance comparisons with/without the dock. I also moved the Kingston drive into a UGREEN Thunderbolt 5 enclosure to see if the failures were specific to the dock.

TL;DR: The dock works flawlessly with a supported SSD (Crucial P3 Plus in my case). My Kingston NVMe corrupted data in the Satechi dock, but worked fine in a separate TB5 enclosure. SSD temps stayed within spec, and Wi-Fi speed did not degrade—in my tests it was slightly faster with the dock attached.

What I tested

• Long-run speed + surface temp readings on the NVMe inside the dock
• Wi-Fi speed (3× with dock vs 3× without)
• UGREEN TB5 enclosure performance with the Kingston SSD

Takeaway: Use SSDs from Satechi’s compatibility list. If you need top-end speeds (esp. on M4 Pro with TB5), a dedicated TB5 enclosure is blazing fast—but it’s pricier, adds fan noise, and no extra ports.
