I was diagnosed with OCD (a life-long condition) by a colleague in 2006, nearly a decade into my career as a Board-certified psychiatrist myself. Major endogenous anxiety syndromes–all of which are genetic and present from infancy–often go undetected and undiagnosed for decades, or even a lifetime.

In this next installment of my "Esoteric OCD Symptoms" playlist, I discuss not only my experience, but that of another physician who, at age 68, was diagnosed with OCD for the very first time, and only very recently...by me.

Although both personal and family histories eventually were found to be confirmatory, the patient initially denied such symptoms. The mental status exam finding that first indicated this condition is esoteric OCD symptom number eight: OVERINCLUSIVITY.
