Sunset and Milky Way at Toadstool Hoodoos & White Pocket

Описание к видео Sunset and Milky Way at Toadstool Hoodoos & White Pocket

It's the late summer and an ideal time to get out for some Milky Way photography. We head out to a couple different locations: Toadstool Hoodoos in Southern Utah (near Kanab) and White Pocket Recreation Area in northern Arizona. These two locations are a little more than 40 miles apart, but most of the driving is on dirt and sand roads.

Toadstool Hoodoos Trailhead starts from a parking lot on Utah Highway 89. This is an out-and-back trail which is about 1 mile in each direction. There are only a couple spots with relative small elevation change as you walk in and out of a sandy wash.

White Pocket should only be attempted with a 4x4 vehicle with some ground clearance. We found it useful to air down our tires. There are multiple spots with deep sand where people get stuck without the correct vehicle or driving skills. From the parking, the hike is about 0.5 mile to some of the interesting features. In this location, there is no specific trail to follow. So you may want to use a GPS to track the location back to your vehicle.

At both locations, we went in early to do some sunset photography and then we waited for full dark for our Milky Way shoot. At this time of year, the Milky Way is visible almost as soon as the sky gets dark (no waiting for Galactic core to rise like you need to in spring). Both locations are beautiful. White Pocket offers more options for different compositions.

We hope you enjoy the video.
