"The director-general (Rafael Mariano Grossi) himself has stated not only in his reports but also in his interviews, including a recent one, that Iran’s nuclear program is peaceful. There is no evidence suggesting that Iran has deviated from a peaceful path. What we have always asked from the agency (International Atomic Energy Agency) and the director-general is that they express their position on Iran’s nuclear issue based on their technical responsibilities and authority. They must avoid baseless speculation that only repeats the unfounded claims and guesses of Western parties. We continue to make this demand of the agency and the director-general."

"Lifting sanctions is a legitimate demand of the Iranian nation. It is not a favor that the United States or others may grant Iran. The rights of the Iranian people have been violated for decades, and every individual Iranian has been unjustly sanctioned. These sanctions are crimes against humanity because of their impact on Iranian citizens and their enjoyment of basic human rights. It is clear that while Iran has taken steps to build trust about the peaceful nature of its nuclear program, the unjust and oppressive sanctions must be lifted. There is no need for indirect or unofficial communication on this matter. We have clearly stated and continue to state that lifting sanctions is one of the main conditions and principles that the Islamic Republic of Iran seriously pursues in any talks with Western parties."

"Iraq’s elections are important for determining the future of the Iraqi people. Any foreign interference in such a process is condemned and unacceptable by the people and government of Iraq and by other responsible countries. U.S. interference is certainly harmful. History shows that wherever the United States has intervened, the result has been damage to peace and stability in that country and in the entire region. We hope that what will happen in Iraq over the next few days will serve the interests of the Iraqi people and strengthen stability and security across the region. Iraq is a very important country, a Muslim neighbor with strong relations with us. Its security, stability, and prosperity are vital to us."

STORYLINE:
Iran on Monday reiterated its long-standing position against building nuclear weapons and demanded the U.N. nuclear watchdog to stop spreading "baseless speculation" about the Islamic Republic atomic program.







Baghaei also addressed tensions in recent week between Pakistan and Afghanistan.
