This is a great example of a very unique cosmetic ear procedure - termed scapha reduction or macrotia surgery - offered by Dr. Hilinski. Scapha reduction surgery is a cosmetic ear procedure intended to reduce the actual size of an excessively large ear. More specifically, the surgery targets the upper portion of the ear, called the scapha, where some patients simply have too much cartilage. Macrotia reduction involves removal of this excess cartilage contour to make the ear actually smaller in size. This is NOT otoplasty, or ear pinning surgery. It is a different type of cosmetic ear surgery that is only performed by plastic surgeons like Dr. Hilinski who have extensive experience in cosmetic ear reshaping.
