Speech Accommodation Convergence and Divergence in Speech Styles Sociolinguistics

Follow on my latest Fiverr: https://www.fiverr.com/umairbinabid816 Speech accommodation is a modifying speech style toward (convergence) or away from (divergence) the perceived style of the person being talked to. For example, a person knows both Yorkshire and Birmingham dialects of English, this person met one passenger in the train who knows only Yorkshire dialect. Now if the person knowing both dialects, intentionally talk with the passenger in Birmingham dialect, he/she is actually diverging and this type of speech accommodation is known as divergence. However, if he/she talk to the passenger in Yorkshire dialect, this type of speech accommodation is convergent i.e. when he/she want to reduce social distance.
