Thanks to the newest release by Mobile Suits, much anticipated after a few months of silence since Sangam’s "The Turn" which saw the light of day in early days of September, the dreampunk community is given a chance to experience fourth evryn’s album (after "Everything Cyclic" released with Infinito Audio Label, "Vanished" with VILL4IN in 2019 and "Veneno" with No Problema Tapes earlier this year) to be ever released on physical medium.
On "sinking in a dream" the Venezuelan artist showcases his command of the language of music. It is one of his most minimalistic, yet varied and diverse works. The 50-minute span of the album form a soft, dreamy and delicate web of notes sprinkled with indispensable ambience of falling rain. Together they give rise to a unique medium whose vibrations in the wind are responsible for the vocabulary and syntax of evryn’s unique musical dialect and latest tale written in it. The title dream he wants you to sink in is your own, and its precise meaning is for you to discover through his guidance during a remarkable journey in the company of modern-day dreampunk bard.
Songs composing "sinking in a dream", such as "no more lies" could be seen as tales about hardships of existence with whatever meaning we can still ascribe to it; a realization about so tremendous, ever-present sorrow in which we and every living thing in embedded. The depths of grief to which evryn takes the listener do not only feel infinite, but also sinister on "frosted" and endlessly repetitive when expressed by the calm but inevitable rhythm to be found in "search the stars". But "sinking in a dream" is also more than that – the album could be seen as composed of two parts. The interlude provided by a serene, peaceful drone of "gamma fields", invites you to look through the morose images that might have come to your mind so far. The triad of closing tracks which it is a first part of provides an impulse for us to lift our heads, gaze into the infinity of stars on the dark firmament of night sky and realize that the number of possibilities lurking there is always bigger than whatever hindrances we may encounter along the way. The feeling is reinforced by the thought about the strength of love and hope of people who do the same in the exact moment; connecting with them and drawing strength from the threads that just formed through evryn’s beautiful music is what "sinking in a dream" might be about.
