The Pilbara... More Than Just Karijini | Deep Reach Pool and Python Pool | Episode 50

The Pilbara region is well known for iron ore mining and Karijini National Park. There's another lesser-known national park not far from Karratha, and Karijini is well worth adding to your list.

Millstream Chichester National Park is a hidden gem with incredible biodiversity, stunning landscapes and some top-quality fresh-water swimming.

Our visit was in late October, and the temperatures were getting high. Thankfully, there's some excellent swimming at Deep Reach Pool not far from our campsite.

Deep Reach Pool was our first stop in Millstream, and we spent hours hanging out by the water. After a swim, we grabbed the kids' new snorkelling gear and gave them a little practice to prepare for our upcoming visit to Ningaloo Reef.

The following morning we set off in search of Python Pool in the northern section of the national park. We were treated to iconic Pilbara landscapes as we meandered along the range.

Despite a horrendously corrugated section of dirt road after leaving the highway, we eventually made our way to Python Pool. Although the water level was a little low at this time of year, it made for a great place to cool off before heading into Karratha to re-supply.
