Create Interesting Encounters

Too often GM's create the same old encounters: a monster appears within sight of the party, roll initiative and have a battle. While combat is an important part of D&D, encounters with creatures and NPC's can be much more interesting if you think about what is happening when the players have the encounter.

I talk about utilizing things like events and activities to mix up your encounters, and I give examples of encounters that don't necessarily mean battles.
