The New Group is shown performing repairs to a concrete bridge using the dry-mix shotcrete method, also known as gunite. Deteriorated concrete was chipped away prior to applying a layer of concrete material with shotcrete. The crew used a Cyclone Gunite machine, manufactured by AIRPLACO EQUIPMENT CO., with flat hopper, 1 ½" anti-static material hose and "double-bubble" dry-mix nozzle. The Cyclone is a "bowl-type" rotary gunite machine. It is designed for medium production projects such as concrete repair. It features a 5 HP air motor (see C-10 gunite machine for 9HP air motor), spur-gear drive, continuous feed, dust suppression chamber, premium feed system and six-point pad hold down. The New Group used Shotpatch 21F, a prebagged fiber-reinforced repair mortar, which was added continuously to the gunite machine's hopper. The machine then propelled the dry material through static dissipating hose vertically to the nozzleman standing on a boom lift. At the nozzle, water was introduced as the material was shot out onto the surface. Other equipment included Sullair 375 cfm air compressor, JLG scissor lift, boom lift and finishing tools. After application of the material, the crew used trowels to cut and finish the surfaces.
