Sept. 6 1997. The second-ranked Florida Gators, just one week removed from a dismal offensive display and questionable debut by their new quarterback against Southern Mississippi, made a statement by routing Central Michigan 82-6, one of the most complete and dominations in school history.

Quarterback Doug Johnson redeemed himself after struggling the previous week, throwing seven touchdown passes in the first half. Central Michigan, just 3 years after winning the MAC conference title, had fell into a program tailspin mainly due inept coaching and poor play calling.

"Sometimes these kind of games can hurt you," Florida Coach Steve Spurrier said. "We just wanted to keep on playing and playing fast."
