Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov addresses the dramatic fall of Assad's regime at the Doha Forum. After rebels seized Damascus in a lightning offensive, Russia confirmed Assad's resignation and departure. The Syrian capital fell to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS)-led forces, ending the Assad family's 50-year rule. HTS leader Ahmad al-Sharaa, formerly known as Abu Mohammed al-Jolani, made his first public appearance at Damascus's Umayyad Mosque, declaring "victory for the Islamic nation."
