Stitch is worked on an odd number of stitches. Pattern is a 4-row repeat.

Abbreviations: K=knit; K1b=knit into the hole below the actual stitch; RS=right side; st=stitch; WS=wrong side.

Two-Color Bee Stitch Pattern:

Designate the two colors as Color A (main color) and Color B (alternate or contrasting color). Using Color A, cast on an odd number of stitches using any cast-on method of your choice (I typically use the long-tail cast-on method; video link to that technique is below). You can use regular needles; you don’t need double-pointed needles; I like using them for my demos (:

Set-up Row (only done once): Using Color A, K all sts.
Row 1 (RS): Join Color B and knit as follows: *K1, K1b. Repeat from * to the last st, then K1.
Row 2 (WS): Continue with Color B and K all sts.
Row 3: Switch to Color A and knit as follows: *K1b, K1. Repeat from * to the last st, then K1b.
Row 4: Continue with Color B and K all sts.

Repeat Rows 1-4 for the Bee Stitch pattern in two colors (note: you don’t need to repeat the set-up row; it is only done once). When done knitting, bind off using regular cast off or any bind-off method of your choice.

Pattern for my Mug Cozy shown in the video:
Yarn: Two skeins of medium weight (4) 100% acrylic yarn, each weighing approximately 50 g (or 2 oz). I used leftover yarn in light gray (Color A) and white (Color B) colors.
Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm) regular 10” needles
Notions: Measuring tape or ruler, tapestry needle (to weave ends), crochet hook (US size G 4.25 mm) and sewing needle and thread (for buttons), if you choose to add loops & buttons.
Gauge: For my yarns, 15 st knit in the 2-color Bee stitch yielded a swatch that was approximately 4” in width (stretched width).

Based on the gauge above and my mug size (circumference), I cast on 33 sts and knit in the 2-color Bee Stitch pattern until my work measured approximately 4” (you can knit until the desired height of the mug leaving about a 1/4-1/2” at the top). End in a Row 4 preferably (which will be in Color A). Then, do 1 row of K1, P1 all the way (ending in a K1). Then bind off in pattern in the next row (shown in video).

Options for closure of cozy: Either add loops using the crochet hook as shown in video (I made 12 chains for each loop of my mug) and then sew in buttons using regular sewing needle & thread OR seam the top part and bottom part of the edges of the cozy, leaving a gap in between for the mug handle to fit (as shown in video). Your mug cozy is now ready for use. Enjoy (:

Finished measurements of my mug cozy: Approx. 10.5” circumference (when worn on the mug) and approx. 4” height.
