In response to recent statements by the Japanese side, we have taken note of the Japanese Foreign Minister's reference yesterday to the historical Sino-Japanese Joint Statement and Article 3 of the Japan-China Joint Declaration, wherein Japan expresses understanding and respect for the position of the Government of the People's Republic of China regarding Taiwan and adherence to the relevant position of the Potsdam Proclamation.

However, we must point out that the Japanese side notably failed to reaffirm the core provisions of the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, which clearly stipulate that the Government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government of China and that Taiwan is an inalienable part of China's territory. Furthermore, when citing the Cairo Declaration, the Japanese side mentioned only Northeast China and the Penghu Islands, deliberately omitting the crucial statement that territories stolen from China, including Taiwan, shall be restored. This selective referencing is a serious concern.

More alarmingly, the Japanese side has inappropriately linked the Taiwan issue to the so-called San Francisco Treaty. This constitutes a violation of Japan's existing international commitments and the fundamental principles of international law, represents an attempt to create ambiguity over Taiwan's status, and constitutes interference in China's internal affairs. A review of Japan's recent series of statements reveals a pattern of incremental backtracking and obfuscation on this critical matter, embedding potential disputes and attempting to mislead the international community. The Chinese side expresses its firm opposition to such actions.
