Alone with my thoughts, analyzing my surroundings, has put things in great perspective for me. British Columbia is a fantastic place to visit, but from a homesteading, farming, preparedness, freedom, & self reliance point of view, I'm definitely home on the prairies. I drove the 5000km without a radio or podcast on: it was great reflection and meditation time for me.

What a beautiful sight to see oil country, the rocky mountains, foothills, wine country, the ocean, and the islands. I travelled from the Saskatchewan homestead, through northern Alberta, the rocky mountains of southern and central British Columbia, all the way to Vancouver Island & Salt Spring Island. Travelling in my offroad excursion van (1999 Mitsubishi Delica L400), I was completely self reliant (other than gasoline) using a bluetti portable power station, renogy solar panel, bluetti charger 1, Iceco cooler, microwave, kettle, hotplate, Gotrax ebike, freeze dried food I prepared, etc. Seven nights sleeping/living in the van and having the best sleeps of my life.

I visited ‪@offgridcurtisstone‬, ‪@janesquier3137‬ and other hard working Canadian innovators, giving me even more perspective on different geographies and climates.

The crowsnest pass and coquihalla highway were amazing to see: One way in, One way out, no useable land in sight. Wine country was neat too with orchards and small wineries, but there is a reason why land is so expensive.... there isn't any. You've got to be a multi-millionaire to live on the islands (if you want any land to homestead with), again because there isn't really any useable land to be had. Land, soil, compost, hay, grains, feed, and livestock are a HOT commodity (again, no land). And don't get me started about the SUN in winter (there isn't much of that either). The prairies are where its at for full self reliance, all your food groups, and the freedom of space!

I hope this video also puts things in perspective for wannabe homesteaders. BC is awesome to visit every 10 years or so, but I'll be in Saskatchewan if anyone needs me.
