This is the latest Tesla Semi prototype, recently spotted exiting the Texas factory around three in the morning, and it features a design that looks very different from all previously seen prototypes currently in use. Despite the excitement around this sighting, the reality is that nearly eight years have passed since Tesla first unveiled the Semi, and there has still been very little official new footage released. The long delays have sparked widespread speculation, with many believing the slowdown is partly due to Tesla shifting major resources toward Optimus and Full Self-Driving, two projects Elon Musk has been deeply focused on in recent years.

At the moment, the Tesla Semi is still not considered a final production model. Tesla has confirmed that the truck will receive major design revisions along with important battery upgrades before entering full-scale production later this year. This strongly suggests that what we’re seeing could be the long-rumored Semi Gen 2, which is set to be manufactured at the new Giga Semi facility. The factory is currently around 70 percent complete, with the remaining work centered on installing advanced machinery and production lines capable of producing up to 50,000 Semi trucks annually.

Elon Musk has also stated that the upgraded Semi will be more affordable, largely due to Tesla switching to a more efficient battery architecture. This truck represents the first Class 8 electric vehicle powerful enough to realistically replace diesel trucks, offering dramatically lower operating costs and far greater efficiency.
