Red Kite Documentary - Nest Building to Red Kites First Flight

A wildlife film about Red Kite nest building, Red Kite egg laying, Red Kite chick rearing and Red Kite chicks Fledging.

In March 2021 I noticed a Red Kite carrying a stick and landing in a tree behind my garden and realized it was building a nest. As a semi-pro photographer I had the gear and was able to leave it recording at my bedroom window pretty much all day every day for 4-5 months. Capturing the full cycle from Red Kite nest building to a Red Kite chick’s first flight and everything in between.

Whittling the hundreds of hours of footage down to just under 25 minutes has been a labour of love and it’s hard not to grow a fondness in your heart over that time for such a majestic animal.

As Red Kites return to the same nest year after year, I now have the pleasure of continuously seeing the family grow and soon I will able to see the third brood of Red Kite chicks being born, right from the desk I sit at now.
