This was a pretty fun one-off experiment, see if I can replicate the classic process of filming purely traditional animation instead of doing it all on the computer as usual.

Been wanting to do something like this for a while, but I didn't really allow myself much time to do it, so once my last semester's classes ended, I immediately hopped onto working on this project. (plus, it gave me an excuse to use nutty in a project once again)



It's a really quick one, but trust me, although it may not seem like much, a LOT of time went into these three seconds. A whole month and a half, in fact.
Since I can't embed photos here on YouTube, unlike Newgrounds, I wrote out some details about how I did it:

First I started sketching out poses (especially for the slipping part) and did the key poses first on tracing paper (about 8 frames at first iirc), then filled in the inbetween frames for about a week, sketched Nutty from behind the rough poses for another week, and eventually got around to making the lineart with some everyday printer paper, for an additional week. Then I spent the first half of January painting each individual frame all by myself, laying each one out on my dad's basement to dry. (probably would've been faster had it been a team effort though, that explains why they had dedicated ink and paint departments back in the day.)

The hardest part was filming, having to get the reflections to not show up as much on the cels, by fiddling with the lights for hours on end. It was definitely much harder than the painting process, had to reshoot it three times because I wasn't satisfied with the lighting, but I figured it out on my third try, eventually.

Then I did a bit of post-processing with Blender, adding the sound effects and tweaking the video to be stabilized, and that was it.

Took up most of my Winter break, a bit longer than I expected but I think it was worth it.
