AWS Backup: Learn how to validate & verify your data recovery readiness | AWS OnAir Los Angeles 2024

On 11/27/23, AWS Backup announced (WNP) the general availability of restore testing (blog), a new capability within AWS Backup that helps perform automated and periodic restore tests of supported AWS resources that have been backed up. AWS Backup is a fully managed service that centralizes and automates data protection activity across AWS services and hybrid workloads, providing core data protection features, ransomware recovery capabilities, and compliance insights and analytics for data protection policies and operations.

With this launch, AWS Backup customers can test recovery readiness to prepare for possible data loss events and to measure duration times for restore jobs to satisfy compliance or regulatory requirements. They can build and run comprehensive restore test drills at scale without having to worry about the cost to write, maintain and execute custom scripts. They can even integrate their own test suites to validate restored resources, and send back validation status so that it is captured and reported centrally. If they need to prove compliance for regulatory requirements, they can leverage the restore jobs report and enable pre-built control for restore testing in AWS Backup Audit Manager to share the resulting compliance reports with auditors.
