ত্রয়োদশ জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে অংশগ্রহণের ঘোষণা দিয়েছেন সরকারের উপদেষ্টা আসিফ মাহমুদ সজীব ভূঁইয়া। তবে তিনি জানিয়েছেন, এখনো কোনো রাজনৈতিক দলে যোগ দেওয়ার বিষয়ে চূড়ান্ত সিদ্ধান্ত নেননি।রোববার (৯ নভেম্বর) ধানমন্ডি নির্বাচন অফিসে ঢাকা-১০ আসনের ভোটার হওয়ার আবেদন শেষে সাংবাদিকদের সঙ্গে আলাপকালে তিনি বলেন, “নির্বাচনে অংশ নেব নিশ্চিতভাবেই। আপাতত স্বতন্ত্র প্রার্থী হিসেবেই প্রতিদ্বন্দ্বিতা করার সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছি।”দলীয় প্রার্থিতা বা কোনো দলের সঙ্গে যোগাযোগ প্রসঙ্গে আসিফ মাহমুদ আরও জানান, “কোনো দলে যোগ দেব কি না, সেই বিষয়ে এখনো কারও সঙ্গে আলোচনা হয়নি।” তবে উপদেষ্টা পদ থেকে তিনি কবে পদত্যাগ করবেন—সেই প্রশ্নে কোনো স্পষ্ট মন্তব্য করতে চাননি তিনি।

Government advisor Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan has announced his participation in the 13th National Parliament election. While talking to reporters after applying to become a voter of Dhaka-10 constituency at the Dhanmondi election office on Sunday (November 9), he said, "I will definitely participate in the election. For now, I have decided to contest as an independent candidate." Regarding party candidacy or contact with any party, Asif Mahmud further said, "There has been no discussion with anyone yet on whether I will join any party or not." However, he did not want to make any clear comment on the question of when he will resign from the advisor post.
