Lyme disease and Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome (CIRS) present almost identical symptoms… So how do we tell them apart? 🤔

Let’s talk about that.

Lyme disease is caused by the bacteria, Borrelia burgdorferi, and is transmitted to humans through tick bites (although we’re finding that other insects can carry and transmit the disease as well). It’s typically characterized by the appearance of a “bull’s eye rash” (however, this doesn’t ALWAYS happen) and symptoms such as:

🔸 Headaches
🔸 Fatigue
🔸 Joint pain
🔸 Brain fog
🔸 Other cognitive difficulties

Unfortunately, it’s not uncommon to become infected with Lyme and never even know it happened (remember - the rash doesn’t appear on everyone). If this happens, it’s possible to experience symptoms years, even decades, later; and routine antibody testing often presents a false negative 🤦

CIRS, on the other hand, is an inflammatory response (usually caused by some kind of biotoxin) that the body is unable to properly regulate. Misdiagnoses between CIRS and Lyme are extremely because their symptoms almost perfectly overlap. Thus, it's virtually impossible to tell the difference based on symptoms alone 🤯

So, what’s the best way to tell the difference between Lyme and CIRS?

Testing 🧪✨

And I don’t simply mean routine testing that a typical doctor’s office will conduct. A special set of labs needs to be done. This can include an MRI, T-cell testing, PCR testing, and gene expression testing.
