James Madison H.S. Brooklyn, New York Class of 1971 - The Way It Was

As one of the yearbook photographers (Log) for the Class of 1971, I took hundreds and hundreds of photos from 1968 to 1971 with my old Canon FT film SLR. This slide show contains only a small part of that collection. I scanned and enhanced these 40-year-old photos using Adobe Lightroom. I developed all the negatives by hand back then in my basement using a Honeywell stainless steel tank, so you can imagine how much work these negatives needed to be viewable.

This show was presented on Saturday, June 4th, 2011 at the James Madison High School Class of 1971 Reunion at Arno Ristorante in Manhattan.
Keep in mind that back in the late sixties and early seventies there were no personal computers, no video games, internet or DVD, CDs, or even VCR s. Most people still had black and white TVs and Star Trek was not in reruns! We used slide rules because there were no pocket calculators. Typewriters were mostly manual and thank G-d we had White Out! Bette Nesmith Graham, Michael Nesmith's mother (former Monkees rock member), invented it in 1956.

Enjoy,

Steve Mekler
