Yesterday, a young software developer asked me a question that many people silently struggle with:

“I’m passionate about coding. Should I start my own startup?”

I asked him a counter-question:
“Why do you want to start one in the first place?”

Most people today aren’t chasing entrepreneurship…
They’re running away from a 9–5.

And that’s where the confusion begins.

If you’re a true tech enthusiast who finds joy in building products, writing code, solving problems, and growing in your craft —
then joining a great company, earning well, and scaling your career may give you everything you genuinely want.

Because starting a startup doesn’t mean doing more of what you love.
It means doing what the company needs.

A founder’s life is different:

You’re not coding 24×7.

You’re managing, hiring, selling, firefighting, strategising, fundraising, and often doing all of this at 2 AM.

You’re not escaping the 9–5; you’re signing up for a 24×7 × 365 commitment.

Entrepreneurship isn’t an escape route.
It’s a responsibility — to your idea, your people, and your future self.

So before starting a startup, ask yourself:
“Do I want to avoid a job… or do I genuinely want to build and run a company?”

Your answer determines your path.
And both paths can lead to success — as long as you choose the one aligned with who you truly are.
