Access to childcare remains a significant challenge for families across Cook Shire, particularly in Cooktown and Lakeland.

In this video, Mayor Robyn Holmes outlines how Cook Shire Council is advocating for sustainable childcare solutions, including urgent recognition of Cooktown and Lakeland as areas of need for childcare facilities.

Council is advocating to the Federal Government for funding and investment into the infrastructure required to expand childcare services in the region, while also working closely with the Queensland Government, local Members of Parliament, and the Cooktown Early Childhood Community Network (ECCN).

The video also highlights the current gap in childcare services, including the lack of formal care options for children aged 0–15 months, and the impact this has on families, employers, and workforce participation in regional and remote communities.
