Celebrating achievements and shaping the future

In alignment with the Hospital and Health Boards (HHB) Act, Health Equity Strategies are developed and reviewed in three-year cycles, paving the way toward the achievement of life expectancy parity by 2031.
On 22 November 2024, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Service proudly hosted the inaugural Let’s Yarn Health Equity Forum, marking a significant milestone in our shared journey toward health equity. This landmark event showcased key achievements and embedded First Nations voices at the heart of Gold Coast Health’s First Nations Health Equity Agenda.
The forum brought together more than 80 Elders, community members, and partners across sectors including health, education, justice, and community-controlled organisations. Attendees shared diverse perspectives, lived experiences, and invaluable insights to guide our collective efforts.
Event Highlights:
• Amplifying Community Voices – Discussions centred on shaping care that directly reflects the aspirations, priorities, and needs of First Nations peoples.
• Live Graphic Recordings – Artist Rachel Apelt from Artbalm beautifully captured the richness and depth of conversations through dynamic visuals that brought attendees' voices to life.
The insights gained from this forum will play a pivotal role in shaping the 2025–2028 First Nations Health Equity Strategy, ensuring it remains grounded in community priorities and lived experiences.
Together, we celebrate what we’ve achieved and look ahead to the future, united in our commitment to health equity for First Nations peoples.
