A visit to a hostel for blind students amid Bihar’s high stake election turns out to be an eye opener . Visually impaired students are living in pitiable conditions. The state of the Blind Hostel showed how the inmates have been forgotten by the university authorities and left to fend for themselves.

In the absence of a mess facility in the Blind Hostel, the visually impaired students have been forced to cook on their own.

The plaster on the ceilings of their rooms is falling off. The roofs leak during the rains adding to the risk of slipping in the corridors.

Unlike the other hostels, the Blind Hostel is without a wi-fi facility and basic facilities, like braille books in the library, are not being provided.

Despite their obvious difficulties, visually impaired students are doing all they can to pursue their studies. They say they too search and hear YouTube videos to prepare beforehand for classroom lectures.
