How to Change Trimmer Line: Curved Shaft String Trimmers

With this helpful how-to video, you’ll learn how to replace trimmer line in curved shaft string trimmers thanks to the Snapper outdoor power experts.


Step 1: Remove Spool from the Curved Shaft String Trimmer
Press tabs on the trimmer head to remove cover
Remove spool and line
Wipe down cover, spool and parts to remove dirt and debris

Step 2: Prep Replacement Trimmer Spool
You have two options when choosing the best trimmer line for you: either a pre-loaded spool or a DIY line replacement on the existing spool (if it isn’t damaged).

For those DIY-ers who want re-lining the existing spool, we recommend using a 25-foot length of 0.095 diameter trimmer line. Do NOT use string, wire or rope, as these are not intended for use in trimmer and could be a safety hazard.

Bend the 25-foot length of trimmer line in half
Insert the loop you’ve created into the slot in spool’s center rim. You should hear it snap into place
With your fingers between the lines, wrap the line in a clockwise direction around the spool
Pull trimmer line ends through the guide slots

Step 3: Replace Line in Your Curved String Trimmer
Put the loaded spool into the cover with the line edges through the exit holes
Replace the spool and cover on the trimmer head. You will hear the cover click into place.
