I want to introduce you to Juju Hook. Juju was a brand strategist for nearly 30 years and her blog strategicjuju.com and her online branding program unforgettableyou.com help female entrepreneurs showcase their greatness. You know that's it, that's a really big part of my message is that, this whole anti-aging industry is insane first of all. The idea of anti aging that you know, we don't have anti-blue sky or anti-gravity and it's happening. And the idea that there's a entire industry that has told us that we will be less happy and that we need to do whatever we can to hold on to the first 40 years of our life is really dictating I think perceptions. And in the same way the diet industry you know, dictates feelings about body image and so I think we have to be ever vigilant to keep our heads on straight. Yeah. And it.... I know exactly what you mean. Because the other things is and you touched on this I know about. Women are starting to feel invisible because the media and corporate America are all focused on the younger consumers and you know it was funny because years ago I was a member of the American marketing association. Yeah I was too. We were a local chapter we were putting on a workshop about marketing to baby boomers. And oh my god this is.... okay I don't think we.... anyway were putting on a local workshop for the chapter on marketing to baby boomers. So we came up with you know, a list of topics that we wanted and the companies we wanted to invite to talk about their marketing plan and someone had the idea of inviting Nike. Uh huh. And Nike said in no uncertain terms, we're not gonna market to baby boomers. They had no interest. Well it's so interesting now that boomer women hold such a significant amount of the income in the United States. It.... I mean it's a tremendous amount percentage wise of the shopping that's done and income that's spent in the US is boomer women. And you know, this was a group that was so grossly underestimated for so long. And I think there's just so much power there and the challenge with being this age or coming in to middle age is nobody ever says, God I can't wait to be 50! Right? It's gonna be great! I can't wait! You know I'm almost 50 and I'm gonna rock this. Or even 40. Everybody has this kind of little mini breakdowns right? And crises related to it and if we all know the truth, and everybody just.... and we all just sort of hold hands and you know, bend down on one knee and said, let's tell the truth about this. All of this stuff is just.... it's malarkey. It's not true! We're not.... you're not gonna feel worse because you're 50.
