The Northeastern Senior Center is currently operating out of a church basement in Mt. Wolf. Leaders say it has outgrown its space and lacks full accessibility for many seniors, and that the move has been a goal for more than 20 years as programs expanded and the need for a safe, accessible space increased.

Just over two years ago, the center purchased a former church building along Susquehanna Trail in Strinestown, across from the Strinestown Fire Hall. The plan was to renovate the building into a modern, fully accessible senior center.

However, progress was delayed by a series of unexpected challenges, including pipe burst that caused a flood, foundation issues, and rising construction costs. While insurance helped cover some of the damage, center officials say it did not cover everything, forcing the organization to reassess its budget.
