Announcer: Welcome to Orange County, California. World famous for its abundance of sunshine, beautiful beaches, and nice neighborhoods.

One thing that is not in abundance in Orange County is fresh water.

With a population of more than 3 million people packed into 471 square miles, water is a precious commodity ... especially groundwater.

The Orange County Sanitation District ...and its sister agency -- the Orange County Water District faced complex challenges including addressing water treatment,
increasing water supply, and being mindful of the importance of the Groundwater Replenishment System.

Black & Veatch was called upon to provide design and construction services to develop a 60-million-gallons-per-day wastewater treatment facility, which included biological nitrogen removal.

The vision for the project was twofold.

First, it was to develop a project with Black & Veatch that would meet the requirements of the consent decree with the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the California State Water Resources Control Board.

Secondly, that high-quality treated wastewater is discharged from the treatment plant to the Orange County Water District to help feed the world-famous Groundwater Replenishment System.

And increase the amount of reclamation that the Districts were already doing.

Black & Veatch conducted the rigorous training and commissioning successfully. And today, the vision has been fully realized.
