Hello Youtubers! I hope your day is going well!

Earlier this week we looked at 1820’s Symzonia: Voyage of Discovery, the first hollow earth adventure novel that was (likely) published by the creator of the hollow earth theory, John Symmes, Jr. (   • Adam Seaborn's Symzonia: Voyage of Di...  ) Now let’s turn to 1871’s Vril, The Power of the Coming Race, by Edward Bulwer-Lytton.

While exploring some odd discovery a newly dug section of a mine with his friend, they fall and his friend dies. He flees from a large dinosaur into the helpful embrace of a group of ancient men that look like angel/demons and have artificial wings. These Vril-la are welcoming and let him seek succor with them. They seem to have a nice utopian society, but is all as it seems?

It does have science fiction elements like proto-robots, energized wings, energy weapons, and more. Unlike Symzonia, all new tech is barely described, it’s just a quick shout out.
