When the ballet Giselle was created in 1841, it was not imagined to be performed by women of color, Black women. In 1984, Arthur Mitchell changed that.

Watch the beautiful ballerinas of Dance Theatre of Harlem, in a quarantined version of Giselle’s variation from Act 1, where she dances for her love interest Albert and the rest of the village, produced by Company Artist Stephanie Rae Williams.
