this song, from the movie "a mighty wind" kinda really fascinates me. it's clearly meant to be a parody of the old folky tunes of hard, rugged, experienced living, but the double negative in "never did no wanderin" has me wonderin'. (heh)
the narrator went on their own legit journey, hunting for the experience of "wandering", but those experiences never felt indicative of the wandering experience of poetic folklore.
when they climbed the mountain, it didn't feel as though they "hiked to heaven on a mountain trail", but they still made the hike. though they did the thing, it does not compare to expectation and therefore it "is" and "is not" the thing. perhaps i've spent too much time "wanderin high", but it seems a not-unexpectedly clever tune, wrapped in as clever tune.
