After revoking the charter of the Royal Niger Company in 1899 and conquering the Sokoto Caliphate with the killing of the Sultan, Attahiru, on July 27, 1903, the British then proceeded to make the whole of Nigeria a single colony and property of the British Empire with the Amalgamation of the Northern and Southern Protectorates on January 1, 1914. #HistoryVille
