The Buggles ~ On TV 1981 Extended Meow Mix

Описание к видео The Buggles ~ On TV 1981 Extended Meow Mix

The Buggles were Geoff Downes and Trevor Horn who had recorded a smash hit in their rendering of "Video Killed The Radio Star" a proto new wave/disco hybrid that hit #1 in sixteen countries at the end of 1979. Before their brush with fame, they were the go to boys for disco sensation Tina Charles (I Love To Love), who ended up financing the session that produced "Video Killed...". She also sang on the demo that got them signed to Island Records. First known as The Bugs, they adopted the moniker "The Buggles" as a sideways tribute to the Beatles. After their success, they were absorbed into the band Yes, but that did not work out so they set about finishing "Adventures In Modern Recording" for a 1981 release date. The first single of the eponymously titled LP did not fare well and the band was over shortly after that release and the not available in the US single of "On TV". For me it was a step forward into the clunky, technologically driven beats that characterized the 80's music scene. Too bad this one was not properly promoted, its very catchy, has those goofy vocal tricks like "Video" but clearly was not a ripoff of it. I remember hearing it on Quebec City radio and in the clubs in the mid to late fall of 1981 and fell in love with it. It never had an extended version, so here is my take on what that might have been like...
