Bullying is a really serious issue that affects so many of us, and can literally destroy our lives. Especially with social media lately, bullying is getting out of hand. When we do take a stand against it, we’re able to make a change, but it’s so difficult to take that first step.

I’ll tell you a story about my childhood growing up. I was bullied like crazy as a kid. It got to a point where I remember not wanting to go to school. The things my bully would say about me was horrific stuff. The decisions my bully would actually force me to make got out of hand. The things my bully would make me do were horrific. But here’s the crazy thing: that bully wasn’t an external bully – it was the internal bully – I’m talking about the bully within. It’s the bully that just keeps pummeling us down and belittles us with toxic shame.

I talk to a lot of people and they share that one of the most damaging things about their lives is their own self talk and self doubt. What their mind tells them is that they’re worthless and that they’re not going to amount to anything. It’s crazy how deep and dark it can get.

And so in order to deal with the internal bully, and to just cope with the toxic voice, we tend to turn to things that actually harm us more in the long run. It solves the temporary issue, it shuts that toxic voice up, but then the horrific part comes (the addiction).

3 Steps to confront your internal bully:
1. Recognition.
The first step is to become aware of the internal bully.

2. Write it down.
Write down all the horrific toxic stuff that your internal bully says.

3. Expose the BS.
As you expose the inner bully, say to it, “I know that you’re just a simple bully. You’re just a big ol’ meanie (as my little kid would say) and i’m not going to tolerate this anymore!”

Here’s your Challenge
Take a stand against your internal bully. Start standing up to it and say, “I’m not going to take this anymore. I refuse to listen to the BS that you tell me. I refuse to do what you tell me to do.”

If you recognize that you have an internal bully and this resonates with you, this is how you take a stand. You start writing the stuff down that’s on-repeat, on a loop. And then when the internal bully says “Go numb out” take a stand against it and say, “I will not allow bullies in my life.”

I know it sounds a little weird and sort of awkward, but when you understand the depth of what the internal bully is up to, you can link up with how it affects you in your life. So this is how you take a stand, this is how you shut it down.

Become aware of it, go and write it out, and say, This is pure BS – no more!
