According to an official royal biographer, the Duke of Sussex appears "miserable" because royals are happiest when they live a life of duty.

Hugo Vickers, the biographer of the Duke of Kent, stated that members of the Royal family rarely find satisfaction when they chose their own path above the weight of their responsibilities.

According to the author, the Duke of Sussex looked "miserable" after abandoning his royal duties, much like his great-granduncle, the brief-reigning Edward VIII.

After only 325 days on the throne, the former King, who later became the Duke of Windsor, abdicated due to opposition to his marriage to Wallis Simpson. Mr. Vickers stated that he chose to prioritise his relationship, which resulted in "sadness."
