In today’s video, I’m showing you how to harness the power of the sun to create a high-efficiency 80-watt solar air heater using recycled materials and a few simple tools. This project is perfect for heating a small room, garage, or shed while keeping your energy bills low!

Whether you want to mount it in a window or place it outside, I’ll walk you through the entire assembly process from start to finish.

🛠 Materials Needed:
9 Arizona Tea Cans (Recycled and cleaned)
2 Small Computer/Laptop Fans (Size can be adjusted based on your box dimensions)

Four pieces of 1x4 Plywood (Cut to your custom length/width)
One piece 1/8 to 1/4 inch Plywood (For the backboard)

Black Spray Paint (Matte finish works best for heat absorption)
Screws or Nails
Plexiglass (Optional: Only required for outdoor installations)

1/8-inch Drill Bit

📝 Step-by-Step Instructions:
Prep the Cans: Using your 1/8-inch bit, drill holes into the bottom and top of all 9 Arizona Tea cans. Think of it like creating a screen to allow air to flow through.

Assemble Air Tubes: Tape the cans together end-to-end using tin foil tape to create long tubes. Make sure the tape is as smooth as possible to ensure optimal airflow.

Frame Design: Build your box frame. Design your top and bottom internal boards so they sit 1 to 2 inches away from the outer top and bottom frame boards.

Mount the Tubes: Drill 9 holes (one for each tube) into the internal top and bottom boards. Fit your canister tubes into these holes and tape them securely into position.

Seal the Unit: Tape the inner area and mount your 1/8" or 1/4" plywood backboard to the frame.
Maximize Heat Absorption: Spray paint the entire inside—including the tubes and the frame interior—with black spray paint. Let it dry completely.

Create Airflow: Drill two holes in the back of the box (one at the top and one at the bottom). Attach your computer fans to these holes. Important: Ensure one fan is set to blow air in and the other is set to blow air out.

Wiring: Wire the fans to a USB port cord and plug it into your 80-watt solar panel.

🏠 Installation Tips:
Outdoor Setup: Place plexiglass on top of the frame. Use dryer vent tubes to connect the heater to your house. Place the box as close to the dwelling as possible to minimize heat loss.

Indoor/Window Setup: Use 2–4 L-brackets to mount the unit tightly to your window frame. Choose a window that gets the most direct sunlight (afternoon sun is best for evening warmth!). Plexiglass is helpful but not strictly required for indoor use.
