Today's trip takes us along the historic A57 trunk road from Liverpool to Lincoln. The video begins as we turn into Anson Street in Islington, and then turning to pass the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, navigate the busy A5047, and then press on through Kensington. This section of the road is fairly busy and narrow for the rate of traffic, but expands into a dual carriageway at Knotty Ash, running through Dovecot, Page Moss, and meeting the M57 motorway at Junction 2.
Seeing off the beginning of the A58 at Prescot, the A57 runs into town and then on to Whiston passing the hospital, and onto Rainhall and then to the large M62 Junction 7 at Rainhill Stoops. We then enter a brief rural setting through Bold Heath, and then arrive in Great Sankey and onto Warrington via Sankey Way. We pass Warrington Central and pass through Fairfield, seeing Warrington Cemetery on our right, and then follow the Manchester Ship Canal through the Woolston Interchange (M6 Junction 21), Glazebrook, Cadishead, Irlam, and onto Peel Green and City Airport.
Passing under M60 Junction 11, we enter Eccles, and then run along the tram line on Eccles New Road up to the terminus of the M602. A57 then takes on Regent Road, a busy dual carriageway into Manchester, and then assumes Mancunian Way, A57(M).
The A57 jumps off at Manchester Piccadilly, briefly borrows the A6, and then becomes Hyde Road as it carves a straight passage through Ardwick, Belle Vie, Gorton, and then reaches the M60 at Junction 24, Denton.
From here the M67 motorway begins, and we duck down to the left to take the old eastward route through Hyde, Godley, and Hattersley before linking back at the Mottram Roundabout. On this occasion, roadwords in Mottram thrawted our route plan, and we pick the road back up at Mottram Moor, before turning right at Hollingworth and entering Derbyshire as we pass over the River Etherow.
We then trundle through Glossop, and finally the road opens out onto Snake Pass - a road with sharp bends, substantial inclines and a relatively high speed limit. The Snake Road passes Featherbed Top, and drops down into forrest as we meet the River Ashop. Dropping through the valley, the river opens up and we cross over Ashopton Viaduct at the Ladybower Reservoir, where the River Ashop and Derwent meet.
We run up a hill through Priddock Wood, and then pass over another moor as we enter Yorkshire, running through the small community of Hollow Meadows. Eventually, the forest builds back as we pass the Rivelin Reservoirs, and soon enter the suburbs of Sheffield. A few junctions slow us down as we gradually descend into town, with a much steeper decline on the final run towards the University of Sheffield and the A61 roundabout at University Square.
We get our road back on the other side of town at Cutlers Gate, and run along the efficient Sheffield Parkway and then the Mosborough Parkway, navigating a bunch of roundabouts until we reach the M1 Junction 31 at Aston. Then we're off again on faster more rural roads, passing Anston, Gateford, Worksop, and Clumber Park before we reach the Apleyhead junction with the A1.
Our road picks back up again at Markham Moor, a few miles down the A1, on our final leg to Lincoln. Eventually, we reach the River Trent, passing over the tolled Dunham Bridge, and then surf towards the outskirts of Lincoln via Saxilby. Passing the A46, we run on past Carholme Golf Club, and turn right at Brayford Wharf, passing the Medical School, and then onto Ropewalk. The A57 then finally terminates at Pelham Bridge, A1434.
